Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on Agricultural Field Operations Officer to assist the Operations Manager in overseeing and managing agricultural clusters. The ideal candidate will be primarily field-based, ensuring optimal productivity, sustainability, and operational efficiency. This role requires a practical, results-driven individual who can supervise daily farm operations, manage field teams, and implement quality control measures. The Field Operations Officer will train farmers and workers, oversee farm production and sales, manage resources and waste aggregation, and ensure adherence to best agricultural practices. The role is essential for maintaining smooth field operations and enhancing farm profitability.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily farm activities and training sessions.
- Ensure adherence to best agricultural practices for maximum productivity.
- Monitor farm workers' performance and ensure efficiency in operations.
- Oversee production schedules and farm output to prevent overproduction (gluts).
- Implement farm safety and sustainability measures.
- Train farmers and field workers on farm management and best practices.
- Provide technical support to ensure improved agricultural techniques.
- Manage farm tools, equipment, and resources efficiently.
- Ensure proper waste aggregation and management for use as a substrate.
- Oversee the sale of farm outputs and manage field-related financial transactions.
- Work with the Operations Manager to improve supply chain efficiency.
- Conduct regular farm inspections and resolve operational issues.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on farm operations and progress.
- Coordinate with the Operations Manager to ensure smooth farm setup and development.
- Manage all field activities to ensure smooth day-to-day farm operations.
- Carry out any additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in agriculture, farm management, agribusiness, or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline (certifications in farm management are an advantage).
- Proven experience in hands-on farm operations and managing agricultural clusters.
- Strong knowledge of farm production processes, sustainability, and supply chain management.
- Ability to work independently in field conditions and make real-time operational decisions.
- Proficiency in farm management tools and digital monitoring software.
- Strong leadership and people management skills to supervise field teams effectively.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to optimize farm productivity.
- Understanding of waste management processes and how they contribute to agricultural sustainability.
- Basic knowledge of farm sales and market dynamics.
- Willingness to relocate and work in Port Harcourt on a self-support basis.
